Jericho Woods are releasing their newest full length studio album ‘One Perfect Sound’ and that’s exactly what they ended up with. This album is the one you put on for those long summer nights of grilling out and family time, the one for that little road trip you’ve been wanting to take. This is what “commercial” country music should sound like, great music that you can just put on and singalong to. No watered down lyrics with a drum loop behind it, it‘s blood relatives playing and singing music for the blue collar family and friends they’ve grown up with in their native Kentucky, with friends who just so happen to be accomplished musicians.

The album kicks off with ‘Wrong Thing Right Reason’ a song for those getting off work on Friday, after a 40 plus hour work week, and are ready to blow off some steam and let loose a little bit. The album moves into ‘Fireflies‘ a catchy tune that will have images from those late summer nights with friends and old flames dancing around in your head and leave you grasping for some of those times again. ‘Hangover Town’ sounds like it’s ready for country radio right off the bat, it’s familiar territory as far as songwriting, but it reminds me of the music I grew up listening to on the local radio station.

A great country record can do down trodden love songs as well those love songs that make the listener yearn for the relationship they hear in the lyrics and that’s where ‘Love the Way You Love Me’ comes in. An upbeat and fun song about spending time and loving your significant other, not wanting to leave when that paycheck comes calling. ‘Song Like This’ takes an interesting perspective, the narrator is observing a girl who has had her heart broken, possibly by said narrator, and acknowledging that she doesn’t deserve the pain she is feeling right now. ‘Monday Morning Cigarette’ could be your first cup of coffee, that joint you spark up, or whatever vice you use to get through your work week after a weekend of being free from the man. Another tribute to the working class that really resonates if you’re not exactly satisfied with your current career path. The album mood hits its low point with ‘Wrong So Gone’ a mellow song about relationships ruined and those drives around town thinking about all of your missteps and what you could’ve done differently. ‘Miss Divine’ is about rendezvous with a senorita down by the Mexican border, a fun song with a dark vibe and great story. ‘Tennessee’ is the song I will be playing on my road trips down to Nashville from Kentucky, it’s a windows down with your hand dancing in the wind kind of song and sings about dreams being realized for some and not others and how they sometimes coincide. The title track and final cut on this album is ‘One Perfect Sound’. I’d say it’s the deepest track with lyrics acknowledging that we are mortal and only have so much time on this beautiful earth. The last words of the chorus and song are “I’m just looking for one perfect sound”.

The perfect sound is the one that fits your time and place, the one that picks you up a little higher or let’s you know that there are others struggling with the same issues you’re going through. This album has both and with hints of Spanish and Bluegrass thrown in at various points on this album, it is a true country record by guys that have a genuine love for the people and region they’ve grown up in.
